Responsible Care and ISO 14001
In 2007 we reached a major milestone in Responsible Care by certifying the remainder of our required plant sites against the Responsible Care® Management System (RCMS). This concluded a three-year effort to have Lloyds Registrar Quality Assurance audit our corporate headquarters and eight facilities that represent the breadth of our operations.
Air Products pursued RCMS certification instead of ISO 14001 since, in addition to environmental elements, RCMS also includes management systems for worker health and safety, product stewardship, distribution, process safety, community awareness, emergency response and security. With the RCMS requirements built into our EH&S Management System, we believe we fulfill the requirements of ISO 14001. However, we have obtained ISO 14001 certification for some facilities based on customer needs.
